Global maritime safety company, Furuno, has set up two new training facilities in India and the Philippines.
It has been done under its Danish NavSkills umbrella and through close cooperation with the newly established Moloobhoy training centre and the Competent Maritime Professional and Sea Staff (COMPASS) training centre.
The new centres will provide two day Furuno type specific ECDIS training courses, which are approved by Class NK, under the NavSkills umbrella. Instructors are trained in Denmark and under the subsequent on-site training syllabus provided by Furuno INS training centre in Denmark.
Yutaka Wada, managing director, Furuno’s training organisation, said: “It is a good step forward in providing type specific ECDIS training locally in Asia, and by adding these two major hubs to our training network we are able to service our good customers even better.”
The Moloobhoy centre, located in Mumbai, can accommodate up to six navigators per training course and provide training on the real Furuno equipment, which allows for a better familiarisation with the equipment.
The COMPASS training centre, located in Manila, has been providing high quality training to the maritime industry for two years and was selected by Furuno for its experience as a training provider.
Veritas Maritime training centre in Manila has also recently joined the Furuno NavSkills network of training centres. The company is engaged in providing training to Philippine shipboard personnel on seagoing vessels.
The NavSkills training concept ensures that the course is conducted in the same way, with the same content and same teaching methods as employed by Furuno’s own centres in Denmark and Singapore.
