Enel commissions new inspection class ROV
Enel, the Italian multi-national power organisation operating worldwide in over 30 countries, has commissioned the first of a new series of Sirio+ miniature inspection class ROVs developed by underwater and environmental engineering specialists, Ageotec of Bologna.
With power delivered by four brushless thrusters of 450W each and incorporating three cameras for all-round viewing, the systems have been specifically designed for operation in strong currents and other testing conditions. Each can carry a payload of 14kg, so allowing for inclusion of multibeam sounders and sidescan sonars among a range of additional facilities.
Other survey equipment compatible with operations in extremely muddy waters includes an integrated altimeter and USBL positioning. Enel says it plans to use systems for inspection of underwater artefacts, dams, reservoirs and pipelines across its power plants in Europe, North and South America. Meanwhile, Ageotec confirms that it is to begin general production of units at its new manufacturing plant in Bologna in October.
