Corsican ports earmarked for shorepower
Two more of the Mediterranean island of Corsica’s eight ports will be installed with shorepower under a programme by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Cargo and passenger transport company Corsica Linea, which serves the ports, has already used the system at Sète, it says, where the CENAQ shorepower connection has been installed.
The next two in line for shorepower are Ajaccio, the capital, and Bastia, which are considered the island’s largest ports.
One of Corsica Linea’s routes is between Ajaccio and mainland France’s Marseille Fos, which was the first port in France to install shorepower, initially on the ferry docks in 2017.
The port authority says it intends to equip the site with shorepower for all international ferries and cruise ships at berth or dry dock.
In parallel, it says, solar panels will be installed to generate the electricity for the shorepower.
