Fish Farm Workboat Delivers Feed with Speed

Shanmhari is powered by a single Scania DS12 575hp marine diesel to give a maximum speed of over 20 knots. The engine is located slightly forward of midships, allowing space for a removable 5 tonne capacity aluminium hopper/feed blower system.

A Palfinger hydraulic crane is located aft to load on feedbags from the quayside, ensuring self sufficiency and rapid turn around times for the operators. The twin unit hydraulic pump system also drives a capstan aft for line and anchor handling. Three berths and a WC compartment are found in the forecabin, with crew dinette, galley and helm position in the wheelhouse. The usual electronics are supplemented by an underwater video set to monitor conditions in the cages during feeding.

The latest delivery continues a relationship dating back to a fisheries conference in the Azores in 1984, when Cygnus’ Sales Director Ernie Cook originally met John Goodlad of Bressay Salmon. A Cyclone 26 fast workboat was Bressay’s first Cygnus vessel, followed nine years later by a Cyfish 33FC, both craft named Hannah Mary.

The Typhoon design has been well received since the original 34ft version was launched at the Southampton Boat Show a year ago, with another six vessels delivered or under build and negotiations underway for additional orders.
