IHC installations for Van Oord trailers
Netherlands based vessel builder and dredging equipment manufacturer Royal IHC has won a contract to design and deliver complete dredging installations for two new LNG powered trailing suction hopper dredgers for Van Oord.
The installations will be delivered for the two 10,500m3 capacity dredgers which are currently under build for Van Oord at Keppel Singmarine Pte Ltd in Singapore, with delivery scheduled for 2021. Each will measure 138m LOA with a 28m beam, single suction pipe and total installed power of 14,500 kW.
The order includes two suction pipe installations with integrated submerged dredge pumps, four additional shore discharge dredge pumps and six jet pumps in total. The installations are custom built using the latest technology and are fully integrated into the design of the vessel. The pumps are equipped with the latest Curve technology. The Curve impeller, with its innovative shape and blade curvature, ensures that the pumps perform with excellent suction properties over the prolonged lifetime of the product.
This order results from intensive collaboration between the project teams at Van Oord and IHC as the design is tailored to Van Oord’s specific requirements. The design team managed to find the optimal balance between weight, robustness and ease of maintenance.
The engineering team paid special attention to energy efficiency measures which will reduce fuel consumption and thus carbon emissions by a substantial margin. Both vessels will qualify as Tier III with regard to IMO emission standards and will obtain Green Passport and Clean Shape Notation.
