IMO Hears Directional Sound Evacuation Proposals

At the recent meeting of the IMOs Maritime Safety Committee in London, its Working Group on Large Passenger Ship Safety gave consideration to the extensive research and proposals by the UK Government to implement Directional Sound Evacuation (DSE).

Central Railway is attempting to introduce a bill into Parliament that would enable it to build a line capable of carrying container trucks on board trains.

The Group made note that it has been demonstrated in comparative trials that directional sound is at least as effective as Low Location Lighting (LLL), with its use in an emergency not diminished or obscured by smoke. The group considered DSE technology an interesting and innovative concept that should be further considered for application to passenger ships in general.
