The vital work of the Secretary of State’s Representative for Maritime Salvage and Intervention has now entered its 25th year.

To avoid tricky situations where commercial interests might influence how an incident is dealt with, the role of SOSREP was created whereby one individual has ultimate control and the power to make the final decision in a national emergency.
