Italian Hydrographic Society formed

An Italian Hydrographic Society (Societa Italiana Di Idrografia) has been formed under the leadership of its inaugural President, Dr Aldo Monaca.

Based in Giarre, Sicily, its declared aims, said Dr Monaca, will be broadly similar in scope and intent to those of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies comprising member organisations for Australasia, Benelux, Denmark, Germany, South Africa and the UK. Thus, it will seek to promote excellence in the application, dissemination and technological development of hydrography while fostering free exchange of information between all those engaged in the science and its related disciplines.

The organisation has already arranged a number of workshops in Augusta, Pozzallo, Giarrre and Catania for November, January and February. Topics range from Surveys in Augusta Harbour to Hydrography for Cable Engineering.

The Society (IHS) can be contacted at 95014 Giarre (CT), Via Callipoli, N.442, Italy or via its web based Linkedin profile.
