Korean Hydrographic Society joins IFHS
The Hydrographic Society of Korea (HySK) has been elected a member of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS).
It joins other national organisations representing Australasia, Benelux, Denmark, Germany, Italy, South Africa and the UK.
Based in Seoul, the HySK is headed by its president, Dr Dae Choul Kim of Pukyong National University’s Department of Energy Resources Engineering, whose fellow directors are drawn from key sectors of the Korean maritime industry. The Society itself represents leading hydrographic surveying individuals and organisations throughout Korea and has recently concluded joint MoUs with the China Institution of Boundary & Ocean Studies (CIBOS) at Wuhan University and IFHS fellow-member, the Australian Hydrographic Society (AHS).
Representing a collective worldwide individual and corporate membership drawn from over 70 countries and with administrative headquarters in Plymouth, UK, the IFHS maintains close working links with other major world survey authorities, including the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) and the inter-governmental International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) in Monaco. Recent activities include a two day conference at Southampton Solent University in October on Digital Hydrography on the Maritime Web, organised in association with the IHO.
