Lochin Debuts New Design at seawork
Lochin Marine International returns to seawork and will be occupying its usual spot adjacent to the gangplank from the quayside down to the shows floating exhibition.
Lochin has chosen the occasion of seawork2002 to introduce a new ‘ground up’ design which has been two years in the making, the Lochin 366 Sports Cruiser.
It is the first to be launched in a four model range which also includes Workboat, Harbour Pilot and Motor Cruiser versions.
The Lochin 366 design brief to naval architect Paul Graville was to take the acknowledged benefits of existing Lochin design and incorporate them into a new hull form using today’s most powerful engine options and power train systems, whether they be gearbox or waterjet.
The very first Lochin 366, on show at seawork, will be fitted with twin Caterpillar 3126TA engines of 350 hp which will enable cruise speeds in excess of 20 knots for the 11.10m loa, 10.5 tonnes loaded displacement vessel.
A particular feature of the new design is the introduction of hull ‘tunnels’, affording improved propeller efficiency and a low shaft angle as well as additional protection to the stern gear area.
By considerable attention to construction methods, such as the hull to deck joint, the GRP components are assembled late in the build using special epoxy ‘glue’ joints similar to methods employed in modern lifeboat construction. This, combined with an element of interior modularisation, provides for a very economic and flexible construction process. Other features include a double chine hull design for dryness and an engine room environment which affords maximised access.
