Bibby Maritime (UK) has commissioned Encraft to carry out a lifetime carbon emission analysis to assess the environmental impact of their floating accommodation units and compare them with similar land-based accommodation.

Bibby Maritime’s floating accommodation vessels support a variety of projects around the world, in remote locations or where existing accommodation is expensive or difficult to find. They are currently accommodating thousands of workers in the Shetlands, Australia, Papua New Guinea and Norway.

Encraft developed a detailed model that allowed examination of the complex interconnected factors that affect the carbon emissions from both accommodation and the associated services.

The analysis showed that Bibby Maritime’s Coastels are up to 27% more environmentally-friendly than shore based accommodation on comparable deployments. The analysis was carried out using methods set out in ISO 14040:2006 and ISO 14044:2006 life-cycle analysis methodologies.
