Norwegian yard acquisition for Tersan

The acquisition will enable both yards to combine their expertise, know-how, customer portfolio and provide more attractive services for the building of wider range of high quality vessels, after-sales services and for general ship maintenance activities.

“We have already been collaborating with Havyard Leirvik on project base cases, although such collaboration had been only to some extent it has always worked well and showed promising signs for a potential more expanded partnership,” said said Ahmet T Paksu, vice chairman of the board of Tersan Shipyard.

”By combining our expertise and resources with those of Havyard Leirvik Shipyard, we are confident that we will be able to achieve our long-term goals and strengthen our position in the global shipbuilding industry.”

Strategic move

Havyard Leirvik, established in 1918, is one one of the oldest yards in Norway. It’s located close to Bergen at the mouth of northern Europe’s longest fjord, the Sognefjord and covers and area of 98,000 sqm.

The shipyard is well adapted to convert, repair and maintain any type of vessel in a fully covered drydock allowing for services independent of weather. It performs a wide range of services from smaller maintenance and repair jobs to large conversions and construction work.

It is a highly reputable company with a good standing in international shipping and maritime circles and with a clear ambition to further strengthen its position in Northern Europe with Havyard Leirvik as stepping stone,” said Tor Leif Mogstad, CEO of Havyard Leirvik.

The acquisition will be completed by the end of the year, subject to regulatory procedures and approvals.
