Port of Dover dock reconfiguration begins

This will include demolishing, disposing of and recycling the existing marina before a new 135-berth facility is built and installed.

New walkways and piers with System 2000 pontoons will be installed by civil engineering firm Walcon Marine once delivered by the end of the year, with final piles in by the end of February, according to the work schedule.

Open mesh decking will be fitted, as well as three new access bridges and bridgeheads.

The marina is due to be fully operational in April, and should be capable of taking boats up to 16 metres in length.

The marina is just part of the Dover Western Docks Revival (DWDR) scheme, which was designed to minimise the loss of character at the port, which dates back to 1606 and is still one of the country’s most important transit hubs.

Archaeologists were brought in to supervise excavation works, which uncovered old basements of Victorian houses that once occupied the promenade before they were demolished after the Second World War.
