The conversion comprised lengthening and modifications to the vessel’s stern in the shipyard’s No. 1 dock over a total of 11 weeks. During the work

was spilt in half just forward of the wheelhouse. Drawing work, stability conversions and the supply of steel for the new 4m midship section was carried out by Macduff Ship Design.

After the vessel had been parted, the double bottom, main deck, side shells and shelter deck were fabricated and installed in five separate sections. All extended areas within the fishroom were re-insulated along with the extension of the refrigeration pipe work.

New winches were also installed aft of the wheelhouse along with modifications to the vessel’s stern. Back at MMS, the galley was refurbished along with a complete re-paint.

In addition to this project, MMS have reported to MJ that they had a really successful time at Seawork this year. Sue Langton, the company’s secretary said, ‘We primarily exhibit at Seawork because it provides us with the opportunity of meeting with our existing customers on the South Coast. It enables us to update them on developments at our shipyard and ascertain their potential needs for the coming months. I am happy to report that this year we were visited by all of our South coast customers. Furthermore, we made some new contacts, one of whom was very interested in our model of the Solstice, as his enquiry was regarding the lengthening of a vessel.’

Other news from the company is that they have just purchased a new 300 ton lift barge which is 40m long by 14m wide. The barge will be converted into a semi-submersible unit for offloading structures either at the shipyard or on-site to suit customer requirements. MMS plans to build a roof structure over the barge so that fabrication and building work can be carried out under cover. This new barge means that MMS will be able to offer specialist repair and refurbishment projects in any location.

MMS specialises in the repair and maintenance of all types of offshore vessels. They also carry out mobilisation work and ship conversions.
