New Elak Nautik multibeam systems
Elac Nautik of Kiel in Germany has introduced a new medium depth and deepwater multibeam system with a swathe width exceeding 140 degrees, the SB 3030.
Among its claimed advantages is an advanced multi-ping technique which compensates fully for vessel pitch and yaw motion while transmitting and processing two swathes in one ping.
The system operates in the 30kHz frequency band over depths ranging from 6m below its transducer array down to approximately 7,000m. It can be operated at survey speeds of up to 14 knots, producing a maximum of 630 beams for each multi-ping.
Marketing manager Ulrike Schulte-Rahde said a system has already been commissioned by China’s Institute of Marine Charting in Tianjin. Meanwhile, a companion model for research applications and mapping continental slopes, the SB 3050, is reported to have been chosen for five Italian naval frigates. Operating at 50kHz, it has a depth rating of around 3,000m and is similarly available with an optional real-time water column imaging workstation.
