New IHO Officials Elected
Rear Admiral Alexandros Maratos, Director of the Greek Navys Hydrographic Services, has been elected President of the International Hydrographic Organizations Bureau Directing Committee which will oversee the Monaco-based inter-governmental bodys work for the next five years.
Entries will be assessed by a panel of Hydrographic Society judges during the Hydro 2002 international symposium in Kiel next October, with the winner being awarded a free SonarLite portable echosounder and accessories worth over US$5,000.
Other Directors elected during the course of the IHO’s 16th five-yearly conference last month are Rear Admiral Kenneth Barbor, USN, at present Director of the University of Southern Mississippi Hydrographic Research Center, and Captain Hugo Gorziglia, International Advisor to the Chilean Navy Hydrographic & Oceanographic Service.
The new committee will assume office at the beginning of this September, presiding over the IHO’s worldwide activities on behalf of 69 member states.
