New Ohmex tide gauge
Gloucester Harbour in the UK, which encounters one of the world’s highest tidal ranges, is among the first customers for Ohmex’s latest low power modular bluetooth tide gauge, TideM8.
A successor to the company’s widely used TidaLite portable range, the new tide level monitoring system for port and harbour applications uses the latest low power processor and flash memory technology, according to Ted Read, director of the Lymington based instrumentation organisation.
Designed to interface direct to external displays or computers via serial relay with bluetooth or short or long range radio telemetry modems, the system features precise calendar and time keeping functions together with solid state data retention. Internal data logging can be retained for up to ten years of readings, with each record detailing time and date, average tide, water temperature, barometric pressure and wave range.
Associated software can run on either PC or PDA devices for displays of current values together with recent tide curve history over the previous 48 hours. It also includes a special time out function to prevent displays of tide data of more than one minute duration.
