The International Salvage Union has published annual statistics for 2014 showing the value of the salvage industry to the shipping world in general and the often unrecognised contribution to environmental protection.

Global maritime giants Svitzer and Titan Salvage recently announced the merger of their salvage divisions to be known as ‘Ardent’ (see ‘MJ’ June 2015) and already have two developments to report on.

Two Scottish owners have recently taken delivery of Damen Multi Cats in a development which can be viewed alongside the growing marine renewables industry in the region.

The last in the series of four eco-friendly hybrid tugs have now been delivered to Svitzer for operation at Chevron Australia’s Gorgon LNG installation off the country’s northwest coast.

Damen are known for their ability to supply tugs from stock to tight timescales and the Gorinchem based shipbuilder recently reported on eight vessel orders covering a wide range from their portfolio.
