Mud density probe aids dredging surveys

Accurate survey results in realms with abundant mud are not easily obtained.

The probe is extremely rugged and easy to transport to site

The transition from fluid to solid is gradual and a distinct transition can’t be obtained with standard survey techniques. When critical draft vessels have to enter or dredging results have to be witnessed and validated, a quick reliable method to measure the mud consistency and behavior is generally not at hand.

Measurement systems for mud density and yield strength used to be bulky and not feasible in most cases for hand carried transport. Stema Systems has introduced a highly portable version of the RheoTune in-situ mud rheology tool to make these measurements quickly available. The RheoTune is being used in many ports worldwide where regular measurements for nautical depth management and mud research projects are obtained.

The RheoTune L version uses the proven technology of the Tune product family. Either mud density, yield strength or viscosity can be chosen, depending on the adopted criteria for the fluid-solid interface. With a reinforced polyamide housing and a weight in air of 6 kg, the probe is extremely rugged and easy to transport to site. For deeper water and currents the unit can easily be added with extra weights, which can be obtained locally.

The RheoTune L was to be available for delivery from last month.
