Van Oord wins contract to construct revetments in Zeeland
Van Oord in The Netherlands has won a contract to design and construct revetments along the channels of the eastern and western arms of the river Scheldt in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The work will mainly involve depositing steel and phosphorous slag and quarry stone.
In addition to price, the invitation to tender emphasised the reusability of the materials and the durability of the structure. Van Oord achieved the maximum score on these points. The contract is worth more than €9m, and the customer is the Department of Public Works and Water Management for Zeeland. The work has already begun and the project should be completed by mid-2010.
Van Oord will be deploying its own split barges as well as crane ships and a special rock dumping vessel owned by subsidiary L Paans & Zonen.
