US offshore wind flies in the face of veto attempts

This marks a significant victory for the US market that currently only has a single, fully operational commercial-scale windfarm and has had to fight hard against the Trump Administration’s significant attempts to veto it.

It’s news which has been welcomed by the offshore energy network, Oceanic Network, which advocates for the advancement of the offshore renewable energy market and aims to build a robust supply chain for the industry.

“US offshore wind powers forward. With the third US project now delivering desperately-needed electricity to the grid and lowering winter energy bills for millions of Americans, the domestic offshore wind industry is demonstrating its true potential every day,” said a spokesperson from the organisation.

”Together, these milestones underscore that offshore wind is not a future promise, but a proven, homegrown energy resource delivering real reliability, affordability and economic benefits today.”

In February this year, federal judges finally over-turned all five offshore wind stop-work orders or lease suspensions issued by the American president he had lodged since December 2025.

The five projects now given the go-ahead will generate almost 6GW of electricity, which is estimated to be enough to power 3.5 million households.

Vineyard Wind was allowed to restart after a Boston District Court judge ruled the administration’s action was ‘likely arbitrary and capricious’.

The project is 95% complete and already sending 572MW of electricity to Massachusetts through installed export cables.

It has a supply chain which spans 37 states and has driven more than US$1.6 billion in investment, while employing more than 3,700 workers.

Meanwhile, the Revolution Wind project, serving Rhode Island and Connecticut, is also making good headway.

The 700-plus-MW project now has all offshore foundations installed and is nearing completion with its turbines.
