Inmarsat launches ‘game-changing’ network service

NexusWave offers a unified multi-dimensional network that delivers high-speed connectivity, unlimited data, global coverage, and ‘secure by design’ infrastructure through a single provider.

The system, says Inmarsat, integrates multiple high-speed networks in real-time, including Global Xpress (GX) Ka-band, low-Earth orbit (LEO) services, and coastal LTE services when available.

It also includes an additional layer of L-band for resiliency in a combination that ensures fast, always-on connectivity and enterprise-grade firewall security.

Inmarsat says its NexusWave service is future proof, designed to integrate the upcoming ultra-high capacity, high-speed ViaSat-3 Ka-band service, which is expected to enter service in 2025. As a unified solution, NexusWave ensures managed performance levels regardless of the vessel’s location or requirements. It provides complete transparency on total cost of ownership, with no unexpected charges.

“Maritime operators face ever-growing demand for data consumption and speeds on board their vessels, coupled with the operational challenges of connecting worldwide while ensuring the security and efficiency of their communications,” said Inmarsat president Ben Palmer. “Meeting all these requirements typically relies on multiple, disjointed solutions, resulting in a complex patchwork of data caps, speeds, and coverage, in addition to unverifiable cyber security.”

NexusWave is supported globally and fully managed by Inmarsat, with top-tier technical assistance and guidance from decades of experience.

The solution will be continuously enhanced, and Palmer added that the synergy from Inmarsat’s combination with Viasat has been integral to NexusWave’s development.
