Kongsberg unveils TTH tunnel thruster series

Kongsberg Maritime has launched a tunnel thruster series for many kinds of vessels, from workboats to offshore wind installation vessels.

The TTH tunnel thruster series allows easier maintenance because there are options for trunk-mounted installation for onboard servicing, reducing downtime and cutting out the need for drydocking.

The series, the Harmonised series, has a compact, modular design that as well as allowing flexible installation, also allows optimal integration into the wide range of vessel types, including cargo and passenger vessels, research vessels, offshore wind installation vessels, workboats, cruise liners, ferries and nava,l and coast guard fleets.

Kongsberg Maritime, a Seawork exhibitor, says key innovations include:

• Compact thruster design for easier hull integration and reduced installation footprint

• Modular design with one core module covering several propeller diameters

• Hydrodynamically optimised blades for improved efficiency and reduced noise and vibration.

• Equipment Health Monitoring (EHM)-compatible

• Optional non-polluting sealing solutions available

• Suitable for the highest Baltic ice classes – Polar Class 6 and 7

The clearance between the propeller blade tip and the tunnel plating on the TTH has been increased, enabling easier installation and reducing paint erosion in the propeller path, also reducing noise and vibration levels. 

It supports controllable pitch and fixed pitch configurations and has optional features such as the Super Silent tunnel and Trunk Mounted configuration to improve onboard comfort and maintainability.

“This enhanced and harmonised thruster range was developed based on our experience and expertise of over 60 years,” said Anton Westerlund, VP Product Management, Thruster Systems. ”The range offers performance and easy installation, something that is demanded by several vessel segments, and we will continue to develop the range to eventually meet the needs of owners in every segment, from workboats to large cruise ships.”

The first models will have propeller diameters of 1650mm and 1850mm, with power ratings of up to 1250kW.
