Geoswath multibeam systems for Rijkswaterstaat
GeoAcoustics of Great Yarmouth, which was acquired by Kongsberg Maritime last autumn for a reported £ 4.3m, has delivered four of its GeoSwath multibeam systems to the Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), the arm of the Dutch Ministry of Transportation & Water Management responsible for construction and maintenance of national waterways and flood prevention.
Interfaced to real-time QINSy software from QPS of Zeist
and
set to provide highly accurate bathymetric mapping data together with co-registered sidescan images, three of the systems have already been installed on RWS survey vessels,
Siege, Speurder
and
Markermeer
. Based in Ijsselmeer, the last mentioned is tasked with monitoring channels providing access from the Rhine, Waal
and
Maas rivers while
Siege
is mainly deployed in the Waddenzee shallow sea area of northern Holl
and
in addition to carrying out hydrographic surveys for various ports in the region.
A fourth vessel will be similarly equipped this summer. Acquisition of all four GeoSwath systems followed extensive field trials of one by the RWS in which results obtained accurately matched previously logged survey data to within 7cm.
