Kongsberg Maritime Extends its Acoustic Range
Kongsberg Maritime in Norway has extended its HiPAP series of acoustic positioning and underwater navigation systems with introduction of a portable 350P model which, it says, heralds a new era of positioning for vessels of opportunity.
A full high specification analogue geophysical and digital seismic package has been installed, and the vessel is booked first by Gardline clients Floyd and Associates Ltd before moving on to a programme for Shell Exploration and Production in Europe. The scope of works will initially involve hazard site survey operations and will be managed by Gardline’s geophysical specialist survey company Gardline Geosurvey.
Featuring a new and compact transducer containing a complete transceiver and an accurate motion reference unit, it is claimed to be the only automatic beam steering portable transducer now available. The transducer is designed for mounting on a shaft which can be installed over the side or via a moonpool of a vessel. It can be tilted so as to have its 120-degree coneoperating area in the sector of a required area with the motion reference unit compensating for tilt. Extra calibration or mechanical fine adjustment is not required.
