New Software Maintains Hydrographic Source Data
Canadian software specialist Caris has begun distribution of its new Hydrographic Production Database (HPD) with first users including Germanys Maritime & Hydrographic Agency, the Peruvian Department of Hydrography & Navigation, and the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration in the US.
The systems, which are due to be commissioned around this spring in readiness for seafloor mapping in North Atlantic and Arctic regions, comprise a Hydrosweep DS-2 multibeam echosounder with a depth capability of 10,000m together with Hydromap on and offline software for acquisition, logging, processing and management of data.
HPD is designed for maintaining hydrographic source data and managing multiple types of products such as ENC’s, digital and paper charts, Notices to Mariners and various textual documentation.
According to the company, it integrates source and products into one system while allowing multiple users to access and update database objects and products simultaneously, thus providing ‘long-sought efficiencies as well as savings in time and money.’
