An expanded partnership in marine engineering

ABS and Seatrium have signed an agreement to accelerate innovation, regulatory alignment and sustainable technologies across the marine construction and offshore energy sectors.

The memorandum of understanding is designed to support the development of next-generation offshore and marine engineering solutions, with a focus on emerging technologies, decarbonisation and advanced offshore infrastructure applications.

“This agreement positions ABS and Seatrium to work closely together at the intersection of innovation and regulation,” said Matthew Tremblay, senior vice president, global offshore at ABS.

“This is the latest step in our industry-leading technology collaboration with Seatrium that promises to make a real contribution to the safer application of next-generation technologies.”

Closer collaboration

The collaboration will support Seatrium’s technology team through technology assessment, classification support, verification pathways and regulatory readiness for new offshore energy and marine construction solutions.

Areas covered under the agreement include maritime decarbonisation, autonomous technologies, harsh-environment applications and advanced offshore infrastructure.

Aziz Merchant, executive vice president, technology and new product development at Seatrium, said the partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to future-ready offshore, marine and energy engineering solutions through innovation and new product development.

The agreement also further strengthens the long-standing relationship between ABS and Seatrium as the offshore energy and marine engineering sectors continue to pursue safer, lower-emission and more technically advanced offshore construction capabilities.

A year ago, The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) gave Approval in Principle to Seatrium Marine & Deepwater Technology for a Floating Wind Semi-Submersible (FWSS) design.

The design is intended to support the new 15MW generation of offshore wind turbines, with pontoons on three sides and a central column that supports the wind turbine.

ABS said at the time that it is interested in supporting the full lifecycle of offshore renewable projects, particularly in Europe and Asia where floating offshore wind power will be an important piece of the overall energy mix.
