Government Pledge on Erosion Claims
The UK Government has reportedly pledged to look closely at claims by European experts that dredging can be linked to erosion on the North Norfolk coast, claim campaigners.
The new marina at Osprey Quay will be the main focus of the development effort, which also includes opportunities for the marine industry, housing and leisure developments.
According to recent reports, the so-called ‘Eurosion’ study has linked commercial dredging activity to erosion in various parts of Europe, although the findings of the report conflict with UK Government assurances that there is no evidence of a link.
A spokesperson for the Dept for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) said the report of the Eurosion project ‘was being considered, ‘ but DEFRA believed that the project ‘has not conducted any new fieldwork and is probably relying on previously published material.’
