50 year vision

The Marseille Fos Port Authority has marked the 50th anniversary of its Fos Industrial Zone (ZIF) by hosting a professional forum to set out its vision for the area and the port over the next half century.

Jean-Claude Terrier, managing director, Marseille Fos Port Authority, said that although the port has lost 18m tonnes of oil traffic since 2008, opportunities are now presented by the diversification of the marine industry into LNG and renewable energy.

The port is already home to two LNG terminals – Cap Tonkin and Elengy Cavaou with a combined annual capacity of 11m tonnes. The proposed new Fos Faster terminal will make FOS the third largest port in Europe.
