€90m dredging deal

Compañía Sudamericana de Dragados S.A., a subsidiary of Belgium’s Jan De Nul Group, has been awarded a contract for capital and maintenance dredging in the port of Bahia Blanca, Argentina.

The contract value is some €90m and is hared equally with Royal Boskalis Westminster NV of the Netherlands.
The project scope includes capital dredging and a five year maintenance contract to maintain the depth.

The capital dredging work will be performed in 2012, with 5.5m cubic metres of firm soil to be removed by a large seagoing cutter suction dredger. This firm soil consists mainly of shale. The maintenance contract requires the annual removal of approximately 3.8m cubic metres of silt and will be carried out with a trailing suction hopper dredger and a water injection dredger.
