A barrage too far
A new report from the House of Lords European Union Committee suggests that Britain will be unable to reach its target for 20% renewable energy by 2020 without ‘ wholesale changes on all fronts’ to its current strategy. The report said the proposed barrage across the Severn near Bristol, which could produce 1.5% of Britain’ s total energy used at a cost of £ 15bn, is unlikely to be completed before 2023.
