ACE Winches wins Queen’s Award
Scotland’s deck machinery specialist, ACE Winches, has been awarded its second Queen’s Award for Enterprise in International Trade.
Diana Muriel, external relations manager for ACE Winches told Maritime Journal: “We are delighted to have won for a second time in the International Trade category.”
The company has secured a number of contracts since it first received the award in 2010. Among these was its largest manufacturing contract, worth £4.2m, for US based Superior Energy Services.
Under the contract, ACE designed and manufactured an electrically driven 8 point mooring spread, capable of operating in temperatures as low as -45 degrees. The ABS certified winches were tailored to meet the mooring requirements of the Superior Energy Services’ barge, which works in extreme water climates in the Arctic.
While the oil and gas markets are the company’s core business, it is also seeing a rise in interest from the marine industry thanks to its own offshore winch operator’s course. Ms Muriel said: “We are finding a great deal of interest from a number of clients globally. The course is applicable for those in the marine and shipping world as well as the oil and gas industry.”
The award ceremony will be held at Buckingham Palace at Her Majesty the Queen’s Reception on 23 July 2013.
