He had no idea that he was actually about to face a long battle for his life

In August 2006 the painful hip was diagnosed as an extremely rare type of acute myeloid leukaemia

.

After two courses of chemotherapy the way forward had to be a bone marrow transplant which, with the help of a donor from the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register, finally took place in January 2007

.

Phil Owens is now coming up to the second anniversary of the operation that saved his life and the day will be a very special one indeed since he is finally going be able to contact the man who selflessly donated his bone marrow

.

As a thank you to this anonymous donor, the staff at Baltic Wharf are raising money for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Register through a distinctly ‘cheeky’ calendar
