Boskalis dredging contract
Royal Boskalis Westminster is to dredge and construct the Bronka Port shipping channel in St Petersburg, Russian Federation, as part of a €130m contract.
The project, which was awarded by CJSC Baltstroy, involves the construction of a 6km long shipping channel, turning basin and berth pockets for the new Bronka port facility.
A total of 16m m3 of clay, silt and sand will be dredged using a wide range of equipment, including medium sized trailing suction hooper dredgers, cutter suction dredgers and backhoe dredgers.
Bronka is currently being constructed to increase the container throughput capacity in the St Petersburg region.
This contract comes in addition to the Bronka port land reclamation contract that was awarded to the company in June 2013.
Boskalis says its strategy aims to build on the expansion of the global economy, the increase in energy consumption, global population growth and the challenges that go hand in hand with climate change.
The project is due to begin in spring 2014 and is expected to be completed late 2015.
