CG completes Cairnryan port survey

The company mapped the seabed and carried out profiling and sampling for the Port of Cairnryan. Infrastructure company, Mouchel, acted as a consultant during the project which lasted seven days. The survey was conducted ready for the replacement of the linkspan. The project, which is expected to be finished 12 months after development starts at the end of 2012, will allow for quieter ferry operation than the current linkspan.

Graeme Kidd, managing director, CG, said: “We were delighted to work with Port of Cairnryan Limited and Mouchel on this prestigious project that will see the construction of a new approach to the linkspan that is used for ferry operations in the port.”

CG carried out geotechnical assessments, unexploded ordnance (UXO) detection and analysis of the samples for geotechnical and benthic properties. The company’s vessel, Surveyor 2, was utilised for the survey along with a variety of sensors including a Geoswath system, a Seapsy gradiometer, a Geoacoustics sub-bottom profiler and a boomer system.
