Cloud based maintenance research project
Classification society ClassNK is embarking on a joint research project with Daihatsu Diesel Mfg Co Ltd to test the feasibility of cloud based condition based monitoring and automatic diagnostic systems on auxiliary equipment.
During the project, the ClassNK CMAXS LC-A system will be used to relay the condition of a wide variety of Daihatsu auxiliary equipment in real-time to help improve lifecycle costs and enhance the safety of ship operations.
ClassNK said that although there has been a significant amount of research into these cloud based systems on main diesel engines, auxiliary equipment has been under researched. It said that this project is desperately needed because there are many inexperienced seafarers unable to interpret the large amount of sensor data now available on vessels.
This long term project is scheduled to complete in October 2015.
