Coastguard engines
The UK arm of German engine manufacturer MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently announced the completion and successful sea trials of the first of 28, 100 tonne patrol vessels for the Taiwan Coast Guard.
The successful, rigorous ‘first of class’ acceptance trials were completed off the coast of Taiwan to the satisfaction of the owner and its representatives, proving compliance with the Taiwan Coast Guard’s exacting specifications, which included an 8 ton bollard pull.
This prestigious Taiwan government contract was awarded to Ching Fu shipyard Kaoshiung, after strong competition from within the marine industry to select vessels and equipment which represented the best long term value for government money.
The 34 metre, 30 knot vessels are powered by twin MAN 12VP185 TCM Diesel engines each rated at 2,720 kWb, driving HT810 Hamilton water Jets through Reintjes WVS1540 reversing reduction gears. The vessels have a range of 1200 nautical miles and are constructed to BV and CR class rules with steel hulls and aluminium superstructures. Production is phased over the next 4 years with the final vessel due for completion in 2019.
