Damen dredges Chinese waterways
A Damen Dredging Equipment environmental cutter section dredger type ECSD450 has been commissioned by Changjiang Chongqing Waterway Engineering Bureau for environmental and maintenance work on Chinese waterways.
The new dredger Huan Bao 1 Hao will be based in Chongqing, where the Jialing River meets the Yangtze and these rivers, together with surrounding smaller rivers and lakes need to be maintained by dredging.
Special attention has to be paid to low turbidity levels in the area to make sure that there are no adverse effects on water quality as the rivers are used for aquaculture.
The dredger was customised for the client and has optional extras including an environmental cutter head and a full dredging instrumentation package including density and flow management.
Interestingly, the Huan Bao 1 Hao will not only perform maintenance tasks though, it will also carry out waterway construction, thus contributing to further development in the Chongqing region.
The vessel was built at the Damen Dredging yard in Nijerk, but after trials it was shipped to China, where it has been recently reassembled. Further testing has been provided in China by Damen field engineers.
