Damen spill pontoon for Netherlands
Damen Shipyards has delivered a Spill Pontoon 2116 to Netherlands-based Maja Stuwadoors that will catch bulk products that are spilled during the transhipment process.
In the Dutch ports of Amsterdam and Rotterdam, Maja Stuwadoors has several floating harbour cranes used for the transhipment of bulk goods for the agricultural, energy and metal sectors. The new pontoon, Maja 5, means loss of product will be reduced during the unloading process.
“This new pontoon can be seen as an extension of the crane pontoon,” said Roel van Eijle, sales manager, Benelux, Damen. “If bulk goods are dropped, they fall onto this spill pontoon instead of in the water.”
This is the first Damen pontoon to be constructed for this specific purpose. It has a large closed deck with a raised 8cm edge to prevent further product loss in addition to mooring bollards in each corner. Damen also fitted two tanks to collect polluted water.
