Damen takes over Dutch repair yard
Damen Shiprepair & Conversion (DSC) has acquired Dutch repair yard D. van de Wetering in Rotterdam to improve the quality of service for its customers.
The yard is one of the oldest ship repair companies in North West Europe and specialises in all types of above-the-waterline repairs to sea-going vessels. The takeover means Damen can strengthen the depth of its service provision through the integration of these harbour and voyage activities.
“It has always been our strategy to repair ships anytime anywhere in the world and even work on ships while in transit. This acquisition accelerates our ambitions in this field,” said Durk-Jan Nederlof, DSC Group director.
Damen say the acquisition will enable Damen customers to benefit from the availability of additional experience and flexible specialists around the clock, in both DSC locations and harbours across the globe.
The integration will allow Damen to further strengthen its ability to commit to making guaranteed availability and continuity a number one priority for its customers.
Jaap de Lange, director of Damen Services, added: “The experienced engineers of D. van de Wetering will be useful additions to our existing pool of around 70 worldwide operating field service engineers. They will strengthen our service support in the field of warranty, technical assistance, maintenance, expeditionary repairs and refits.”
All activities have already been transferred to Damen Shiprepair Van Bring, just a short distance away in Pernis, and the D. Van Wetering yard has ceased operations.
