Deepocean enters offshore market

Netherlands based Deepocean Group Holdings has entered into the market for offshore geotechnical services by by entering into a strategic alliance with Geoquip Marine for the provision of services in the North Sea and worldwide.

The rig will be used ahead of the installation phase to determine the seabed conditions in relation to structures, including wind turbine foundations

Deepocean CEO Bart Heijermans said that the motive behind the move into the market is because it is “undersupplied”.

The company has already acquired a geotechnical rig which was built and commissioned in 2011. It’s capable of operating in depths of up to 600m with a combined water and borehole depth of 850m.

“We have several vessels in our fleet of 14 owned and chartered vessels that can deploy the geotechnical drilling rig and we are targeting a number of opportunities in the offshore renewable and oil & gas sectors to get this important initiative started,” Mr Heijermans said.

The view is that the synergies between the two companies will result in an offering to clients which includes quality seabed drilling and testing services particularly in deepwater and challenging environments such as the Arctic.

But also, as Tom Nightingale, spokesperson at Deepocean told Maritime Journal, the rig will an asset for the entering into the renewables market.

“The technology is used ahead of the installation phase to determine the seabed conditions in relation to structures, for example, wind turbine foundations,” he said.
