Drydock planning for industry
Netherlands based Hydrographic and Marine Consultants BV (HMC) is attempting to “change market dynamics” with the introduction of its DryPlan dock planning system.
Specifically designed for use within the maritime industry, the DockPlan software programme keeps track of all required maintenance activities, materials and skills needed to complete a drydock operation.
HMC says the web based DockPlan calculates the effects on costs of delays and downtime and other possible bottlenecks to “increase the efficiency and transparency of the docking operation”. Users can access real time data from both the office as well as on site to ensure “critical path planning”.
The system has been designed in close cooperation with shipping companies, shipbuilders and ship maintenance companies as the complexity of and demand for special ships increases, resulting in more expensive downtime periods.
As a result, a Joint Industry Project (JIP) has been set up to allow the industry to help further develop the DockPlan dock planning system. Companies involved include Damen Shipyards Group, Seaway Heavy Lift, the Dutch Navy, Flinter Shipping BV, Anthony Veder Rederijzaken BV and Koninklijke Wagenborg BV.
