Dutch ship breaking

Over the past two years, HMC has been busy with increasing efficiency, health and safety standards on ship dismantling operations. The subsidy, granted through the TMI (Technologische en Milieu Innovatie regeling) will contribute to the development of such a system and support local and regional business in an environmentally friendly way.

Timon Ligterink, project manager for HMC’s SDI project said, “The Ship Dismantling Instrument will combine our current technologies such as the ship loading instrument CPC and the MQK for measuring strain and fatigue to come to an integrated system that allows a hull’s integrity and stability to be monitored while dismantling it while floating. This way, expensive drydock operations will be reduced to a minimum and ship dismantling becomes safer, more environmentally friendly and more cost efficient.”
