Export cable contract for offshore wind farm
Swedish company ABB AB has been awarded the contract for the export cable at the planned Belgian offshore wind farm Rentel.
The contract is to design, produce and install the approximately 40km long cable which will connect the offshore substation to the onshore grid.
Installation of the cable will be performed by AABs new-built vessel, while the contract for the offshore substation has been awarded to STX France SA.
Rental has an installed capacity of 309mw, it has an expected annual production of more than 1gwh corresponds to the annual consumption of 288,000 households.
Total investment for the project is expected to reach beyond €1250m and the new wind farm is expected to supply renewable energy from mid-2018.
Contracts for the supply and installation of the 42 wind turbines and foundations are set to be finalised in the near future.
