Genset order for Damen tugs
Netherland’s based propulsion expert, DBR, has delivered a substantial order of 42 marine generator sets for Damen Shipyards which will be installed on 14 tugs bound for the Middle East.
DBR performed the design and engineering work for the gensets which are equipped with double bearings and are started by compressed air.
“The design characteristics will allow the tugs to operate effectively in harsh environmental conditions where ambient temperatures can reach 65°C,” said Herwin Roodenburg, managing director, DBR.
For five of the tugs, which are Damen ASD 2810s, DBR delivered 15 diesel engine generator packages, each with a 170kVA capacity. These gensets are equipped with C9 Caterpillar engines and Leroy Somer LSAM46.2M5 generators.
The remaining nine tugs, which are all of Damen ASD 3212 design, are equipped with 27 diesel engine driven generator packages, each with a more powerful 199kVA capacity. These units will also work with C9 Caterpillar engines, but will work with Leroy Somer LSAM46.2L6 generators.
DBR’s gensets have marine classified local control panels including serial interface for easy integration into the ship’s control system. The panels will allow users to access event driven history records, easy backtracking and problem solving features.
DBR has a long standing relationship with Damen as a preferred supplier of custom built generator and pump sets.
The new vessels are being built at Damen’s Galaţi yard and are due for completion at the end of the year.
