German offshore wind energy conference
The German Wind Energy Association, Bundesverband WindEnergie e.V., will hold a conference on offshore wind energy operation focusing on strategies and experiences.
It will take place at the Adina Apartment Hotel in Hamburg on 3 and 4 November and the two-day event will be held in German.
“We want to focus especially on cost reduction measures and offshore experience reports. We have invited some well-respected and knowledgeable specialists that will discuss these topics,” said Betül Özdemir, senior product events manager of Bundesverband WindEnergie e.V.
During the conference, speakers will share experiences from the first phase of operation at an offshore wind farm and will aim provide tips for planning and construction of further operations.
Among the speakers is Hans Gatezeimer, the managing director of ELA Container Offshore GMBH, who will focus on the theme of mobile offshore accommodation for fluctuating staff levels, exploring the issues which arise within the industry everyday.
He said: “I look forward to the event and I am confident that the conference participants will benefit from the interesting information and examples for future projects.”
With offshore wind power generation moving further offshore, the conference will focus on the ongoing debate into which method should be used to transport technicians out to site.
It is argued that larger, faster vessels which take technicians out to the site for a few days at a time, but burn more fuel, should be replaced with models from the oil and gas industry. This would keep the workers out for months at a time but could be more cost and economically friendly.
