Global Tech I makes progress
Norway-based Fred. Olsen Windcarrier’s jack-up installation vessel, ‘Brave Tern’, has installed its first Areva M5000 WTG at the Global Tech I windfarm in the German Bight in the North Sea.
Brave Tern entered the project in late December 2013 for loading from Bremerhaven, with the first tower and nacelle fully installed earlier this month.
The vessel made its second trip on Wednesdat with four towers and nacelles from Bremerhaven to install its cargo at the construction area 180km away.
In total, it will install a further 44 WTGs on Global Tech I, following the extension of the original contract for 30 WTGs.
Fred. Olsen Windcarrier says the Brave Tern is a flexible vessel for the project thanks to its 3,200m² deck area allowing for transportation of four sets of complete towers and nacelles.
This is the company’s third installation project in the German Bight since the Brave Tern and its sister vessel Bold Tern were launched in 2012/13.
The Global Tech I windfarm is due to be completed this summer and will consist of 80 Areva wind turbines in total.
