GloMEEP project gets underway
The first national workshop under the Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project has been held in Georgia.
It aims to support increased uptake and implementation of energy-efficiency measures for shipping.
Georgia is one of the lead pilot countries for the project which held its first workshop from 15 December to 17 December.
The workshop focused on raising awareness of Annex VI for the prevention of pollution from ships, as well as energy-efficiency regulations.
These regulations include requirements for new ships to be built to be more energy efficient and for all ships to develop a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP).
Participants included officials from the Maritime Transport Agency in Georgia and the Ministry of Environment, as well as representatives from several ports and academics from maritime training centres.
Funded by IMO’s Integrated Technical Cooperation Programme, the workshop was organised by the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia in collaboration with the Black Sea Commission.
The GloMEEP National Task Force held a meeting on 18 December following the workshop to discuss a National Work Plan for 2016.
