Grandweld contract with Kuwait Oil Company
Dubai based shipbuilder, Grandweld Shipyards, has won a contract to build a series of four heavy duty crane/workboat class vessels for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).
Under the contract, which is valued at a total of US$50m over the duration of the build, Grandweld will design and build in-house to meet the specific requirements of KOC’s heavy equipment, oil pollution control, SBM hose handling, FO/FW supply and other related duties.
Each vessel will be powered by two 1432 bhp engines, generating 35 tonnes of bollard pull and will be equipped with a crane capable of lifting 20 tonnes at a 10m radius.
In addition, the vessels will also be fitted with two Azimuthing stern propulsion systems and bow thrusters to enhance its manouverability.
KOC is a subsidiary of the Government owned Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC). This latest contract follows the delivery of two service boats to Kuwait Oil Tanker Company, another subsidiary of KPC, in December 2012.
The first vessel will be delivered in May 2014, with the fourth and final vessel due to be delivered in February 2015.
