Grandweld crew boats for Mexico
Dubai based boat builder, Grandweld Shipyards, has secured a contract worth over US$21m from Mexico’s COTEMAR.
Under the contract, Grandweld will design and build four 42m fast aluminium crew boats.
The new vessels will be fitted with EPA Tier 3 compliant main engines and advanced navigation equipment to meet COTEMAR’s needs. This ensures they comply with US Environmental Protection Agency requirements and US Coast Guard regulations.
They have been designed to reach speeds in excess of 26 knots and have been equipped with luxury seating, accommodation for VIP guests, a larger deck space and enhanced comfort for the crew.
The vessels, which will operate in the Gulf of Mexico, can seat 100 offshore personnel and have a 100m² loading area of rover 90 tonnes of deck cargo. They can also carry a large amount of fuel and freshwater.
Grandweld will build the vessels at its yard in Dubai Maritime City. The first vessel is due to be delivered in May 2014, with the fourth and final vessel to be delivered in August 2014.
COTEMAR, which is a new customer for Grandweld, provides offshore oil and gas services in the Gulf of Mexico.
